How does life emerge from molecules and cells? This is the central question that motivates us. With curiosity and passion, we investigate the entire spectrum ranging from the atom to the organism. The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the world’s leading life sciences institutes. With 32 groups, high-end core facilities and 500 employees, we are a dynamic and international research community that has spawned many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine as well as several Nobel Laureates. Become part of our community!
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist/Research Associate to join our team at the Proteomics Core Facility (PCF). The PCF provides state-of-the-art proteomic techniques to support life science research at the Biozentrum and other Basel University institutes. It is tightly integrated in an internationally leading scientific surrounding. The main focus of the group is the development of new data-independent mass spectrometric workflows for sensitive, quantitative protein and post-translational modification profiling and their integration in interdisciplinary biological projects.
The primary responsibilities for this position will include the operation and maintenance of latest LC-MS systems (Vanquish Neo, EvoSep, Exploris 480, Eclipse, timsTOF Ultra 2), the assistance and teaching of researchers performing proteomics analyses and general lab management. Duties will include supervising sample preparation, analyzing samples by quantitative and sensitive LC-MS/MS (SWATH-MS), data analysis via a suite of software tools, continuing analytical method development and reporting of results to collaborators on a regular basis, including internal presentations.
The ideal candidate should have proof of proficiency in LC-MS based proteomics techniques, including planning of experiments, sample preparation, operation of LC-MS platforms, data analysis software tools and practical experience in organizing a laboratory. Prior experience with the preparation and analysis of low input samples and data-independent workflows would be advantageous. The successful candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented and computer literate. The candidate should have good written and verbal communication skills, be able to work both independently and within a team and have a MS degree or higher in a biology or chemistry related subject with 2+ years of experience. High proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
The position offers a challenging opportunity to join a growing and rapidly evolving bioanalytical field and to join a team of highly motivated scientists. Access to sports programs and fitness facilities, well-established services for balancing career and family (e.g. childcare, modern parenthood regulations and more) and numerous courses for training and development. The position is initially for 2 years, with the possibility of further extension for 4 years after positive evaluation. Salary and benefits according to University of Basel standards.
The application should include a brief personal statement, explaining how your qualifications and experience make you a good candidate for this job, together with a full, up-to-date CV and addresses of 2 references.
